We are sad to report that Janet C Bowers of Whilton died at home on 3 March.
John Townley taught Janet to ring with quite a large group of villagers in the mid 1970’s. Most of the others moved away from the village but Janet and Ken stayed.
Janet rang her first peal at Whilton on Easter Sunday 19 April 1981, ringing the 2nd to Plain Bob Minor on the old 6 bells (tenor 9cwt). Janet was elected a member of the Guild in 1977 and went on to be Daventry Branch Secretary 1986 – 2014 and had been on the committee for three years that. She last rang at a branch meeting in April 2015 and last attended one in March 2019.
Janet rang many quarter peals, including caters and royal at Daventry and her last was Plain Bob Triples on the eight at Whilton (new in 1994, tenor 13cwt) on 5 December 2010.
Her name is cast on the 1994 tenor bell with Harold Haynes as they were churchwardens at the and Canon Jim Richardson.

I will forward details of funeral when available.
